Daddy[ 6:57:00 am ]
My family had a bout of quality time last night as we celebrated my dad's birthday. Dinner and dessert were on my bro and me and I was so glad that the night turned out very well. Daddy's a year older and yet an even happier man. :)))
It really matters in the quality, not quantity..though my family's already very closely-knit, I still cherish every time we have that's spent together as a whole.
And I saw my dad's expression as he read that really cute card my bro and I wrote to him: PRICELESS!
Every single effort had paid off when we saw that smile on his face. He's such a simple man, traditional (no cakes) and he's worked hard all his life. That's my father..who's really getting more funny and cute as the years go by.
I remembered him as a strict disciplinarian when I was much younger. Though I had always enjoyed a close relationship with him, I only experienced more of the constant showering of fatherly love in recent years. He had been stationed aboard for about half the time of my life before he finally got stationed back in SG again.
And really, as I get older too, I begin to see different sides of my dad. Perhaps, our dads can finally let out the other sides of them when we grow older because they know we've matured and hence, the discarding of the "all strict disciplinarian" side? Of course, they still discipline....
But I'm grateful to have also found a greater friend in this man whom I've respected and loved all my life.
